The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is an international research organization based in Hyderabad, India, whose mission is to combat hunger, poverty, and environmental degradation in the tropical drylands of Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Its work focuses on improving agriculture and agri-food systems through scientific innovation, the development of new crop varieties, sustainable farming practices, and digital solutions.
MISSIONICRISAT is a non-profit international agricultural research centre, and a member of the CGIAR Consortium, whose mission is to reduce poverty, hunger, malnutrition, and the degradation of natural resources in the arid and tropical regions of the world.
AREAS OF INTERVENTION
ICRISAT focuses primarily on the semi-arid and tropical regions of Africa and Asia, where harsh climatic conditions threaten food security. Its main areas of work include:
- Genetic improvement of crops such as millet, sorghum, pigeon pea, groundnut, and other resilient crops.
- Sustainable land and water management.
